0W-8 and 0W-12 Availability

0W-8 Motor Oil

Ultra1Plus SAE 0W-8 full synthetic motor oil is API SQ licensed, blended in the United States, and in stock now. 0W-8 is the ultra-low viscosity grade specified for a growing number of Toyota hybrid and small-displacement gasoline engines, where tighter bearing clearances and variable valve timing systems are engineered around a thinner oil film. Using a heavier grade in these engines costs fuel economy and can affect how the engine's timing components operate. We blend 0W-8 to the correct specification and we hold secured raw material supply, so you can order it as a scheduled item rather than chasing it.

Available now, in quarts, cases and bulk

Ultra-low viscosity oils have been difficult to source across the United States since spring 2026, driven by constrained premium base oil supply. Ultra1Plus is a US blender with raw material secured into 2027. We supply 0W-8 in quart bottles, cases, and bulk packaging, and we contract fixed monthly allocation for installers, dealer groups and fleets rather than selling into spot shortages.

  • Retail and DIY: individual quarts and cases
  • Shops and quick lubes: case quantities with scheduled delivery
  • Dealer groups and fleets: drums, totes and contracted monthly allocation

What 0W-8 oil is, and why it exists

SAE 0W-8 is one of the thinnest engine oil grades in production. The "0W" describes cold-start flow and the "8" describes viscosity at operating temperature — lower than 0W-16, and substantially lower than the 0W-20 and 5W-30 grades most drivers know.

These grades exist because of fuel economy. Thinner oil reduces the energy an engine spends pumping and shearing its own lubricant, and in hybrid powertrains that repeatedly stop and restart the engine, low-viscosity oil also improves protection during the moments immediately after a restart. Manufacturers designed the bearing clearances, oil pump output and variable valve timing actuators in these engines around that thinner film. The viscosity is not a compromise; it is a design parameter.

Because these engines are built for it, 0W-8 is not interchangeable with heavier oil as a matter of routine. See the substitution question below.

Vehicle applications

0W-8 is specified for a range of Toyota hybrid and small-displacement engines, with additional applications in other markets. Always confirm the grade specified in your owner's manual or service information before selecting an oil.

Vehicle Engine / notes
Toyota Camry Hybrid 2.5L hybrid, 2024 and newer
Toyota Corolla / Corolla Hybrid Select 2023 and newer applications
Toyota Crown 2.5L AWD hybrid, 2022 and newer
Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid 2023 and newer, including AWD
Toyota Prius Select recent model years
Additional global applications Toyota Yaris and Yaris Cross Hybrid, Mazda 2 Hybrid 1.5L and other non-US market vehicles

Applications continue to expand as manufacturers introduce new hybrid powertrains. If you are unsure whether a vehicle takes 0W-8, contact us with the year, model and engine and we will help you confirm it.

Specifications and certification

  • API SP licensed. Ultra1Plus 0W-8 is licensed under the API Engine Oil Licensing and Certification System. You can verify our licensed products yourself in the public API EOLCS Licensee Directory — and we would encourage you to check any supplier offering you 0W-8 right now.
  • Formulated to meet JASO GLV-1 performance requirements, the Japanese specification developed for ultra-low viscosity gasoline engine oils.
  • Full synthetic formulation with additive chemistry selected for wear protection, deposit control and LSPI resistance in modern direct-injected and hybrid engines.
  • Blended and packaged in the United States.

Note on marks: SAE 0W-8 is covered by API Service Category SQ and carries the API service symbol. It is not an ILSAC category — ILSAC GF-6B and GF-7B apply to 0W-16 only — so 0W-8 does not carry the ILSAC starburst or the API Shield. Any 0W-8 displaying those marks is mislabeled.

Why buy 0W-8 from Ultra1Plus

  • Licensed, and verifiable. API licensing on this grade is not universal among the products that have appeared during the shortage. Ours is listed and public.
  • Independently quality-monitored. Ultra1Plus participates in the Petroleum Quality Institute of America program.
  • Secured supply. We hold raw material into 2027 and will commit to contracted monthly volume, so your service lane is not planning around what happened to be on the truck.
  • US manufacturer, direct. You are buying from the company that blends it, with a real phone number and a person who answers it.

Frequently asked questions

What is 0W-8 motor oil?

SAE 0W-8 is an ultra-low viscosity full synthetic engine oil specified for certain modern hybrid and small-displacement gasoline engines. It flows more readily at operating temperature than 0W-16 or 0W-20, which improves fuel economy in engines specifically designed for it.

What cars use 0W-8 oil?

Primarily recent Toyota hybrids, including the Camry Hybrid, Corolla Hybrid, Crown, Grand Highlander Hybrid and Prius, plus additional models in global markets. Confirm the specified grade in your owner's manual, as applications vary by model year and engine.

Can I use 0W-16 or 0W-20 instead of 0W-8?

Not as a routine substitute. Engines that specify 0W-8 were designed around its viscosity, and running a heavier oil reduces fuel economy and can affect variable valve timing operation. Manufacturers have permitted limited substitution during supply shortages as a temporary measure for a single service interval, but that is an exception, not a standard practice, and it is not a reason to change what you use permanently. If you are facing this decision because your usual supplier is out, we have 0W-8 in stock.

Is 0W-8 too thin to protect my engine?

Not in an engine designed for it. Protection comes from the complete formulation — base oil, viscosity modifiers and additive chemistry together — not from thickness alone. Engines specifying 0W-8 have bearing clearances, oil pump output and timing components engineered around that viscosity. Using a properly formulated, licensed 0W-8 is what those engines were built to run.

Is Ultra1Plus 0W-8 API certified?

Yes. It is licensed under API Service Category SP and listed in the API EOLCS Licensee Directory, which is public and searchable.

What is JASO GLV-1?

JASO GLV-1 is a Japanese specification developed for ultra-low viscosity gasoline engine oils in the 0W-8, 0W-12 and 0W-16 range, with performance requirements broadly comparable to API and ILSAC GF-6 levels. Ultra1Plus 0W-8 is formulated to meet its performance requirements.

What sizes is Ultra1Plus 0W-8 available in?

Quarts, cases, drums and bulk. Case and bulk pricing is available by phone at [PHONE].

Do you supply shops, dealer groups and fleets?

Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. We write twelve-month supply agreements with fixed monthly allocation rather than selling spot, which means you know what is arriving and when. Call 888-685-8721 to discuss volume.
